ITQ Subject Specific Support

ITQ is a new IT user qualification and training package that has been created to ensure staff are trained in exactly the IT skills they need to carry out their roles. It is primarily aimed at ICT users and not professional IT staff and allows different units to be taken at different levels. LSN has already produced, and distributed to FE colleges, an ITQ resource pack, which has been created by practitioners in the post-16 sector to support the development of staff ICT user skills. It has been aligned to the new ITQ qualification to allow both teaching staff and those who directly support teaching and learning to acquire those skills in context.

To further support practitioners in the post 16 sector, a series of projects were commissioned (October 2005) which aimed to develop subject specific ITQ training activities and resources. These projects were to draw on existing subject expertise and support models, or create new ones, and were integrated into other national and regional support activities.

The subject specific areas for these projects are Basic Skills and ESOL, Science, and Teacher Education. The participating colleges in these subject areas were:

Leeds Thomas Danby College
Liverpool Community College
South Downs College
Craven College
Liverpool Community College
Richard Huish College
Bishop Auckland College
City of Westminster College
South Kent College

These project outcomes were disseminated at a series of regional events in March and April 2006, and subsequently through the ELIA (e-learning in action) database.
