Science

These materials together with the techniques used have been developed and tested as being specifically relevant and effective to Science teachers. However many of the techniques and ITQ skills required are transferrable to other subject areas just as the resources developed for SfLand Teacher Education can be adapted for use in Science.

This material demonstrates how teachers and trainers can progress from using Microsoft Word to develop simple learning objects for use with students to integrating Excel graphs, and interactivity into a Powerpoint presentation. The skills required by the teacher/lecturer progress the basic use of Word and Excel to the use of Powerpoint and images. 'How to' guides are included describing how to create each different resource.View the materials Download Zip archive

This project shows three related learning objects demonstrating how teachers and trainers can use basic Microsoft Office software to develop simple to more complex and involved activities designed specifically to increase active learning in the classroom. The subject of this activity is the study of epidemiology. The first object focuses on using Word as a presentation tool, to present simple learning activities. In learning object 2, the same activity is developed further by first using PowerPoint to enhance the existing activity, and setup a role-play disaster scenario to increase student participation and active learning. In learning object 3 this is developed further with the advanced use of excel, to produce a spreadsheet which can be used for the role-play. Students can enter budgeting decisions based on evidence from the worksheets, and the numerical values for mortality and morbidity are automatically calculated using formulae created by the teacher.
